Growing plants successfully is a long term project and trying to fit it all into one 2 hour workshop is setting people up to fail. Grow Your Own Herb Garden is actually 3 workshops - one in each of the spring months. You will also join a facebook group to share photos and plant progress. All of this is included in the $60 fee.
I think that the best way to learn is by doing, so in these workshops you will be growing lots of plants. By the end of these workshops, you will have an amazing collection of herbs as well as being able to give plenty of plants away to your family and friends.
Workshops run from 10.30 - 12.30.
Workshop 1 - Saturday 10 September
In this workshop, we will discuss the basics of growing
- what to grow and when
- differences between annual, bi-ennials and perennials and what this means in practical terms
- the different ways of growing - from seed, from roots and from cuttings.
- how to keep your plants alive
We will sow lots of seeds, for example - parsley, german chamomile, calendula, tulsi, basil
Workshop 2 - Saturday 15 October
In this workshop you will bring back your seed trays and we can see how everything is growing - it takes at least 3 weeks for parsley to germinate. You will prick out and re-pot your german chamomile seedlings.
You will then learn how to take root cuttings from established plants - peppermint, spearmint, french tarragon,
You will learn how to take simple cuttings from sage, rosemary, thyme, lemon verbena
Workshop 3 - Saturday 19 November
This will be (hopefully) a celebration of all the plants that you have grown. In this workshop, you will bring back all your cuttings, seeds and plants and we can see how they are growing. We can discuss any problems you may have had and you can take any extra cuttings or plants that you may need.
Group Size will be a maximum of 10 people.
